We decided
to use the MSI KT4 Ultra for this low end gaming PC
due to
it's
rock
hard
stability
and
expandability.
First we
decided
to
couple
the KT4
Ultra
with an
AMD XP
2000+
CPU with
a stock
fan, and
with
it's
ability
to
handle
the
newest
XP
Barton
3000, we
knew we
had a
real
performer
here.
Next we
chose to
use the
MSI
GF4Ti4200
Graphics
Card to
match
the
motherboard
as this
makes a
great
combination. We added 512 MB of DDR 2100 SDRAM by Corsair to complement the Combo.
We then
added a
single IBM 40
GiG 7200
RPM HDD
with
Ultra
ATA100.
Put it
all
together
and add
Microsoft
Windows
XP Pro
Edition
and you
have a
fast
little
TEX
Gaming
machine.
We
decided
to run
the
Benchmark
from Mad
Onion to
see what
this
little
baby
could do
and it
performed
beyond
our
expectations.
Our
first
stock
run
turned
8,700
points.
Not bad
for
totally
stock.
After a
few
tweaks
here and
there we
were
able to
get well
on up
there
above
11,800
points.
Now we
wanted
to see
what
this
machine
could
really
do. We
opted to
change
video
card
drivers
to the
latest
edition
and test
again
and were
amazed
to jump
up to
over
12,700
points!
WOW.
Next we
opted to
do a
little
over-clocking
on the
video
card and
left the
processor
stock.
We could
take
this
machine
to
13,200
points
but was
at the
point of
no
return
so
decided
not to
over-clock
and just
keep
this
stock.
We
wanted a
rock
solid
performer
and we
got it.
